My first sales experience was at a door-to-door cold calling phone service sales company in Barcelona. There I learned the principles of sales and the essence of the impulses that make someone decide to buy any product or service, as well as how to lead them through the different stages of the customer journey from initial awareness to closing the transaction and all in a matter of seconds.
While my prior experience in the catering industry taught me the basics of customer interaction, including proper presentation and body language, it was at this role that I truly utilized these skills to their fullest potential.
To this day, and after years of studying sales and marketing systems on my own, I haven’t found anything that isn’t actually a derivation or sophistication of these impulses I learnt, that move us at a primary level when it comes to deciding to purchase something.
My level of awareness of these impulses, how they affect us in real life, and how to apply them in other fields, have been of incalculable value for my subsequent jobs.
